# Spatial Media Toolkit

> Spatial Media Toolkit is an app by Strange Mesa that turns ordinary 2D photos and videos into 3D on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. It estimates depth on the device and builds a separate view for each eye, then saves an Apple spatial photo or video, a side-by-side 3D file for Meta Quest and other headsets, a red-cyan anaglyph, or a looping wiggle video.

## What it does
- Converts 2D photos to 3D: Apple spatial photos (stereo HEIC), side-by-side 3D, red-cyan anaglyph, or a wiggle video (MP4).
- Converts 2D videos to 3D: Apple spatial video (MV-HEVC) or side-by-side and anaglyph video (HEVC .mov), with the source's audio and resolution.
- Converts between 3D formats without the AI step: reads Apple spatial, side-by-side, half side-by-side and top-and-bottom; writes Apple spatial, side-by-side or anaglyph. This turns iPhone spatial videos into side-by-side for a Quest.
- Batch queue: import many photos and videos, "Copy settings to all", convert and save them together. Videos can be trimmed before converting.
- Depth slider and previews (cross-eye, wiggle, side-by-side, depth map) before saving on iPhone, iPad and Mac; a true 3D preview on Vision Pro.
- Depth estimation and conversion run on the device. No cloud processing and no account.

## Apple Vision Pro only
- Gallery: browse Photos albums and Files in 3D; 2D photos open as spatial automatically.
- Spatial Scenes (visionOS 26): view any photo as an immersive spatial scene. Viewing only; scenes can't be exported.
- Real-time 3D playback of ordinary 2D videos, with no conversion step.
- Spatial Video Editor: join, trim and reorder spatial clips and photos, add music, export at 1080p or 4K.

- Mac: macOS 15 or later, native Mac app. AI 2D-to-3D needs Apple silicon; 3D format conversion also runs on Intel Macs.

## What it doesn't do
- No Android, Windows, web, Meta Quest or Samsung Galaxy XR app. It makes files you copy to those headsets yourself and play in a side-by-side 3D player.
- No 360°, VR180 or immersive video output; no top-and-bottom or half side-by-side output.
- No live 3D camera capture; it converts existing photos and videos.
- No 3D model, mesh or USDZ export, and no GIF output.
- No video editing on iPhone, iPad or Mac beyond trimming before conversion.
- On iPhone, a conversion pauses when you leave the app; long videos are easiest on a Mac.
